Protonaut is a researcher and AI builder. At the University of Waterloo, his work spans relativistic quantum information and applied machine learning. He is co-author of a 2025 paper in Physical Review D studying quantum detectors in superposed spacetimes, and has contributed research on computational sentiment analysis. He has also built production software at YuJa and worked as a data scientist for Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Ontario government.

OCR Software for International Permits

Developed OCR software from scratch using OpenCV in Python to extract data from international permits PDFs. Implemented custom preprocessing pipelines to handle variations in text font, size, and orientation. Demonstrated improvement in OCR accuracy for 10k+ permits, resulting in time and cost savings.

File Compression Software

Optimized disk space by creating file compression software in Python, saving 40% disk space.
